How Long Does Professional Wasp Nest Treatment Take in Adel?
A nest in a tree or hedge looks easy to deal with and is anything but. This guide covers the visit, the access, and the wait for the branches to fall quiet.
A buzzing hedge that you nearly cut
You pick up the hedge trimmer on a warm Saturday and, before the first pass, notice a thin, steady stream of wasps leaving a patch of dense foliage. You stop just in time. A hedge or tree nest is one of the easiest to disturb by accident, because you are standing right beside it with a noisy tool.
Treating it is typically a single visit. The timeline is mostly decided by how the nest is placed, so it is worth looking at that before you phone.
Trees and hedges are popular places to build because they are sheltered, hidden and close to food. A nest in dense foliage may be invisible until you are close to it, and that is exactly when a trimmer or a ladder can disturb it. If you have noticed unusual wasp traffic around a bush or tree, mark it in your mind and avoid it.
What makes a tree or hedge nest different
Branches move, foliage hides the nest, and the ground may be uneven. The technician will want to find the actual entrance and the safest way to reach it, which may involve a ladder. A nest on a low branch is generally quicker to reach than one high in the canopy.
The price does not alter with the size of the nest. It is £90 per nest, confirmed on the phone, with no call-out charge. Where access is hard, mention it at the booking so that it can be agreed there and then, and not on the doorstep.
- Say how high the nest is, as best you can judge from the ground.
- Say whether the tree or hedge is yours, a neighbour’s or shared.
- Note any fences, sheds or overhead cables that might restrict access.
- Tell us about any allergy in the household.
Some nests hang from a branch in the open, while others are tucked deep inside a hedge or inside a hollow in a trunk. The technician’s approach differs, and so does the time it takes, but the price stays the same unless access is genuinely difficult, which is confirmed on the phone before anyone comes.
A nest in a hollow trunk is another variation. The wasps use a single hole, the colony is inside, and the technician works from the outside. Do not tap the trunk or shake the tree to see what comes out.
Before the technician arrives
Stop all work on the hedge or tree straight away. Noise and vibration from trimmers, mowers or strimmers can provoke the colony. Keep family and pets out of the garden, or at least well away from that corner.
If the hedge borders a neighbour, tell them. A nest near a boundary can send wasps into their garden too, and a quick word helps avoid a surprise. Whether the tree or hedge is anyone’s responsibility is a matter for you to check, rather than something for us to advise on.
Phone 0113 347 0014 or use /contact-us/. We offer same-day service and are open seven days a week.
Garden furniture, toys, a washing line or a compost bin close to the hedge are best moved ahead of the visit only if it can be done well away from the wasps. If moving them would take you into the flight path, leave them and tell the technician where they are.
During and after the visit
The technician deals with the nest while you stay indoors with the windows closed. When they are finished, you will be told what to expect. For the first hours, wasps that were away may keep returning to the branches, and you will probably see them hovering around.
By the next day, you generally see far fewer. Over a day or two the area usually falls quiet. Keep a safe distance in the meantime, and do not start the trimming just because the buzzing seems to have died down.
Wait until the activity is clearly over before touching the hedge. If you are unsure, a few more days is a small price for safety.
People often ask whether they should stay and watch. It is better not to. Take a look through a window if you wish, but do not go outside until the technician has said it is fine, and do not let children or dogs wander into the garden.
Leaving the nest where it is
A paper nest in foliage often becomes visible once the leaves are thinner, and the temptation is to pull it out. Hold back. An old nest is not dangerous in itself, but you cannot be sure that no wasps remain. Ask the technician when you book whether the empty nest can be taken down.
Wasps do not reuse an old nest the following year, but queens may start a new one nearby. Keeping an eye on the garden from late April onwards helps you spot a new nest while it is still small.
Calling back, and a second nest
‘1 visit guaranteed’ appears on the price graphic. If a steady stream of wasps is still moving in and out of the same part of the hedge or tree after a day or two, phone again and describe what you can see.
If you find another nest on the same property, an additional nest costs £35, agreed on the phone first. Hedges and trees along a boundary sometimes hold more than one, so look along their length from a safe distance.
Good record-keeping helps here. Note the date of the visit and what you could see before and after. If you need to ring again, that information saves time and lets us advise you more usefully.
