Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
If the loft belongs to a rented or managed property, the practical steps are the same: keep clear, tell whoever is responsible and arrange a treatment for the nest.
A nest in a shed, garage or outbuilding feels contained and manageable. It is really a confined space with a full colony, which makes DIY removal harder.
An old nest found in autumn is often empty, but it can be hard to be certain from the outside, which is why it is best left alone until someone has checked it.
When a nest sits in a shared garden, stairwell or yard rather than in one household’s space, the main task is deciding who coordinates the visit and who needs to be told.
If the property is rented, a wall nest raises a practical question about who arranges treatment. Check your tenancy agreement, then deal with the wasps promptly.
