How Long Does Professional Wasp Nest Treatment Take in Walton?
The visit itself is usually short, but the nest does not go silent the moment the technician leaves, and knowing the timeline helps you stay calm.
The short version
Most people want one number, and it is a fair question. In practice there are three stages: the visit itself, the first few hours afterwards, and the day or two it usually takes for activity to settle. Each has a different length, and treating them separately gives a more honest picture than one figure.
Timings vary with the position of the nest and the weather, so all the times below are described as usual rather than certain. The price, by contrast, does not vary: wasp nest treatment is a fixed £90, with £35 for an additional nest on the same property.
It is also worth saying what the timeline does not include: there is no waiting period for the visit once it has been booked and agreed, and no work is done until you have confirmed it.
The visit
The technician will arrive, look at where the wasps are going, talk to you briefly and confirm what is to be treated. The price you agreed on the phone is the price you pay, and there is no call-out charge.
The treatment itself is usually quick. What takes the time is getting to the right place safely, which depends on where the nest is. A nest on a low garden wall is a simpler job than one in a roof gap or a hedge. You will be asked to stay inside, with children and pets kept in, while the work is done.
There is no need to be present throughout, but it helps if someone can show the technician the right spot and be available afterwards. A trained technician attends, and the job is fully insured.
If you have a question as the technician is finishing, ask it then. It is much easier to explain what you can expect in the next few hours while they are standing in front of the spot.
The first hours afterwards
When the technician leaves, you may still see wasps. That is normal. Some of the colony will be out foraging when the visit takes place, and they come back to the entrance. Expect circling and settling near the site for a time.
- Stay well away from the nest and its entrance.
- Keep windows closed on that side of the house.
- Keep children and pets out of the area for the rest of the day.
- Do not check on the nest to see what is happening.
It can be tempting to look closely, and it is the point at which people get stung. The wasps that return to a treated nest are usually confused and not especially aggressive, but they can still sting if you get in the way.
The next day or two
Activity usually fades over the following day or two. You may notice fewer wasps each time you look, and the entrance becomes quiet. Warm weather can keep a few stragglers going a little longer.
What to do meanwhile:
- Leave the nest alone. Do not knock it down or poke it.
- Do not block the entrance too early. Wait until you are sure there is no traffic.
- Keep bins closed and food covered so that other wasps are not drawn in.
- If a wasp gets into the house, open a window and let it leave.
When everything is clearly still, you can fill the gap or have repairs done. If you would like the empty nest removed, ask the technician when booking whether this is possible.
If you notice a nest in a neighbouring garden or on the other side of a fence, mention it to your neighbour calmly. Wasps do not respect boundaries, and a second colony nearby can look like a failure of the first treatment when it is simply a separate nest.
What “1 visit guaranteed” means, and when to call back
Our price graphic carries the words “1 visit guaranteed”. In plain terms, the nest treatment is carried out in a single visit for the fixed price you were given. You do not need to plan for a second appointment as part of the normal job.
If you are still seeing strong activity at the nest well after the first couple of days, or if you spot a new entrance, ring us and describe what you are seeing. We would rather hear from you early. It may also be a different nest on the same property, and an additional nest is £35.
The team covers Walton in the Leeds area and surrounding villages, we are open seven days a week and offer same-day service. Domestic and commercial customers are both welcome. Ring 0113 347 0014 or fill in the form on the contact page (/contact-us/), and tell us if anybody in the household is allergic to wasp stings.
What affects how quickly things settle
No two nests behave in precisely the same way, and a few things influence how quickly the activity fades.
- Position. A nest in an open spot, such as a hedge, is often easier to see settle than one buried in a wall or a roof void.
- Weather. Warm, bright days keep more wasps flying, so a few returning workers may be visible for longer.
- Time of year. A nest in August has far more wasps in the area than one found in early summer.
- Size of the colony. A larger colony naturally has more members out and about at the time of the visit.
None of this changes the price. The treatment is a fixed £90 per nest, and the price is confirmed on the phone before the technician arrives. It also does not change the advice, which is to keep away, keep windows closed near the nest and let the activity die back.
