How Long Does Professional Wasp Nest Treatment Take in East Ardsley?
A little preparation makes a short visit shorter. This page is a practical checklist for before the technician arrives, with notes on what to do during the visit.
Preparation shortens the visit
Treatment is usually a brief visit, and the most reliable way to keep it that way is to be ready for it. Technicians lose time when they arrive to find the gate locked, the nest buried behind a stack of boxes, or no one able to say where the wasps are going in.
The checklist below covers what to do in the time between booking and the technician arriving. It is written for a household in East Ardsley, in the Leeds area, though it suits any property we cover, whether a house, a flat with a garden or a commercial site.
On the phone: what to have ready
Before you ring 0113 347 0014, spend a minute gathering the following. It makes the call quicker and means the price can be confirmed without a back-and-forth.
- The address, including any gate code or access note.
- Where the wasps go in and out: roof edge, wall, shed, bush, hole in the ground.
- Roughly how high up it is, or how far from the house.
- When you first noticed it, and whether it has got busier.
- Whether there might be more than one nest.
- Whether anyone in the household or a nearby neighbour is allergic to stings.
If you would rather write than talk, the online booking form on the contact page asks for similar details.
It is better to give a rough answer than none. If you cannot say how high the nest is, say it is above the first-floor window, or beside the second chimney, or by the garage door. A simple landmark is better than a guess at a measurement.
Clearing the way
The technician needs a safe route to the nest. Spend a few minutes on these jobs, but do them from a distance if the nest is active, and never go right up to it.
- Unlock side gates, sheds or garages that give access.
- Move bins, bikes, plant pots and garden furniture away from the wall below the nest.
- Put away washing, toys and pet bowls from the garden.
- Check that a car is not blocking the area where a ladder may need to stand.
- Make sure any dogs are inside or shut in a room.
If you cannot do any of this safely because wasps are flying near the spot, leave it and tell us. The technician can deal with it on arrival.
A word on pets: wasps and dogs make a poor combination, and a dog that has been stung on the nose or paw can panic. Keep dogs indoors for the whole day of the visit, and the following morning too if the nest was in the garden. Cats and small animals that roam are harder to control, so keep them inside as far as you can.
Making the house safe
Wasps that have lost their nest can wander indoors, so close up before the visit rather than after it.
- Shut windows and doors on the side of the house nearest the nest.
- Close vents and trickle vents on that side.
- Draw curtains or blinds, since light attracts wasps.
- Keep children and pets in rooms away from the nest wall.
- Do not leave open food or drinks in kitchens close to the nest side.
Do not worry about perfection. Even a half-prepared house is fine, and the technician has seen every sort of access problem. What matters is that nobody is injured, and that the route to the nest is as clear as you can make it without going near it.
During the visit
You do not need to watch, and it is much better if you do not. Remain indoors, and follow what the technician tells you. A trained and fully insured technician is dealing with the nest, and the work is done without you.
If a neighbour comes to ask what is going on, a polite word from a distance is enough. Please do not let them wander over for a closer look while the work is under way. If you have questions, wait until the technician has finished.
When the job is done, ask any questions you have about the next day or two. This is also the right moment to ask whether the empty nest can be taken down, if that matters to you. The answer depends on where it is.
If you have a few questions for the technician, jot them down beforehand. Typical ones are how long to keep the windows shut, when it is fine to fill the gap and whether the empty nest can be removed. Having them ready means nothing is forgotten when the technician is on the doorstep. Write down, too, the time you were told to expect the visit, so that anyone else in the house knows when to stay indoors.
What to expect after, and the price
The price for a nest is a fixed £90, confirmed on the phone before the visit, with £35 for an additional nest on the same property. There is no call-out charge. Nothing is done without your agreement.
Afterwards, wasps may circle the old entrance for several hours, with activity usually fading over a day or two. Do not knock the nest down, and do not block the entrance. If the entrance is still busy after a couple of days, phone us and describe what you see. We are open seven days a week, and same-day service is offered.
The short version of all this, for the fridge door, is below.
- Address and access note ready.
- Nest position described.
- Gates unlocked, route clear.
- Windows and doors shut on the nest side.
- Children and pets inside.
- Allergy information passed on.
