Wasp Nest in a Cavity Wall – How Professionals Treat Hidden Nests in Fearnville
A few minutes of preparation, a clear description and some safe notes will make a visit to a hidden nest quicker and calmer for everyone.
Before you pick up the phone
You have decided the wasps at the wall need dealing with, and you have the number in front of you. Spending five minutes gathering information makes the call easier and the visit quicker. None of this requires going near the wasps.
A hidden nest is judged by its entrance, so describing the entrance well is the most useful thing you can do.
The more precisely you can describe it, the less time the technician spends searching, and the sooner the nest can be dealt with.
Nobody expects you to be an expert, and nothing you say will be wrong. Treat it as describing a spot on a map.
It is also worth deciding who in the household will make the call and who will be available on the day. A single point of contact keeps things simple.
What to note down
Write a few short points on paper or your phone.
- Which side of the building the wasps use, front, back or side
- How high the gap is, roughly, and whether it is a crack, air brick or vent
- Whether you have seen wasps indoors, and in which room
- When they seem busiest during the day
- How the area is reached, such as a side gate, passage or flat roof
If you can, add a note on the weather when you saw the activity, as wasps are quieter on cool, damp days. That tells us whether the gap is a busy one or just occasionally used.
Do not take photos while standing right below the entrance, and never use a flash near the wall. A zoom from a window or from the far side of the garden is quite enough.
Keep a record of any wasps seen indoors, with the room and the time. One in the kitchen is not unusual, but several in the same room day after day suggests the nest has a route inside.
Photos, taken safely
A photograph from a good distance can help, but never lean in for a close-up. Use the zoom on your phone from a window or from at least a few metres back. Include a window or door in the picture so the technician can see where the gap sits.
If you cannot take a photo safely, skip it. A clear verbal description is enough.
Photographs also help if you are managing a property on behalf of someone else, because you can send a picture to the owner or agent to explain what you are asking for.
If there are two places where you have seen wasps, note both, because an additional nest on the same property is £35 and it is easier to arrange both at once than to discover the second later.
If anyone has been stung, or if you suspect a reaction, say so on the call. It is not a problem to share and it changes how we plan the day.
On the phone
We ask where the wasps are, whether anyone is allergic to stings and how we reach the area. The price is confirmed there and then: £90 for a nest, £35 for an additional one on the same property. There is no call-out charge and nothing is done until you agree.
We are open seven days a week, offer same-day service and cover Fearnville and nearby areas. Domestic and commercial customers are welcome. Technicians are trained and the work is fully insured.
Be ready for a few questions about safety. We ask because we want to make sure everybody at the address stays safe, and also because we want the visit to be as short and simple as possible.
Not everyone is comfortable with technical detail, and you do not need it. Simple answers are ideal. If you do not know something, tell us, and the technician will check for themselves when they arrive.
The technicians are trained for this work and the work is fully insured, so you can be confident that the visit is handled properly from start to finish.
Getting the property ready
Clear a safe path to the wall, move garden furniture, cars and bins if you can, and bring pets and children indoors on the day. Close windows near the entrance. If the wall is on a shared boundary, let the neighbour know a visit is planned.
If you rent or manage a building, check who needs to authorise the visit, since that depends on your tenancy agreement or lease.
If you have a gate code or a locked side passage, tell us when you book. If the technician arrives and cannot reach the wall, it wastes your time and ours.
Ask whoever else lives at the address to read your notes, so everyone knows which door or gap to avoid. A household that is all on the same page is a safer one.
Think about where you will be during the work. A room at the opposite side of the house, with the windows shut, is best, and it helps to have something to occupy children.
After the visit
Stay away from the wall for a few days and watch for activity from a distance. Once it has fully stopped, close the gap so it can't be used again. Ask at booking about taking down the empty nest.
To book, ring 0113 347 0014 or use the online form on the contact page, with your notes in front of you.
Keep the booking details in a note on your phone, in case you need to ring back or pass them to someone else in the household.
After the visit, add a line to your notes about what was done and when, in case you ever need to refer back to it.
If activity at the gap has not stopped after a few warm days, ring and tell us. Describe how many wasps you see and where, and we will discuss the next step on the phone.
